Classics in Alcalá Festival 2014, the Performing Arts Festival organized by the Community of Madrid and the city of Alcalá de Henares, was presented today.

The mayor of Alcalá de Henares, Javier Bello and the Deputy Minister of Tourism and Culture of the Community of Madrid, Carmen Gonzalez, today presented the fourteenth edition of the festival, which will raise the curtain June 12 to July 6 with proposals from a total of twenty theater companies.

Classics in Alcalá, the Performing Arts Festival organized by the Community of Madrid and the city of Alcalá de Henares, returns to the town of Cervantes June 12 to July 6 with a special program that focuses on new artists and includes productions from acclaimed directors and renowned companies. Classics in Alcalá 2014 presents an issue this time marked by the various readings of a significant number of works by William Shakespeare, given this year is the 450th anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth.

Classics in Alcalá 2014 Featured

  • The show will begin with the Entremeses of Cervantes, a production with which Teatro de la Abadía celebrates its 20th anniversary
  • The Festival will honor Shakespeare with several shows at the 450th anniversary of his birth
  • It will feature the participation of 29 companies that will offer theater and music functions in 58 beautiful locations of the complutense city
  • Sergi López, Ramón Barea, Veronica Forqué, Miguel del Arco, or Daniel Albadalejo, among others, will present at a program with eight world premieres
  • The Lorenzo Caprile (Vistiendo el Teatro) and José Hernández (Historia de una Atracción) exhibitions and the Teatro de la Abadía, among the 76 activities scheduled
  • All this can be enjoyed at prices that do not exceed 17 euros per ticket

Classics in Alcalá Festival will convert Alcalá de Henares in the national reference of classical theater, a unique experience that combines some of the most beautiful places in Comunidad de Madrid with the excellence and modernity of its artistic proposals.
The Complutense World Heritage City will host a total of 29 companies and 76 activities in 11 areas of the city like Teatro Salón CervantesCorral de Comedias, King’s CollegeOld Hospital of Santa Maria la Rica, Cervantes Birthplace Museum and the Chapel of St. Ildefonso, among others.
